This year UnitingCare West’s Most In Need report focussed on the issues of economic disadvantage, in particular resource poverty.
The 2014 information has come from more than 1000 clients as well as particular input from 250 individuals. Through a review of UCW’s services and data, as well as this direct engagement with clients, it is clear that the vast majority of those in need are facing economic disadvantage.
The report was launched on Tuesday 2 December in Weld Square by the Minister Helen Morton. Sue Ash AO, UnitingCare West CEO, discussed how important this report is for not only UCW but for the wider public, including state and federal government, to better understand the significant number of people who are living with economic hardships. Nationally this number reaches a staggering three million people. The current housing affordability crisis, high cost of utilities and the relatively low levels of welfare support are all combining to create a situation in which these vulnerable individuals and households are no longer able to make ends meet.
Thank you to everyone who contributed to the compilation of this vital information.
