Community Options at Tranby

Recently participants in the Community Options Service visited Tranby College students in Baldivis to enjoy some fun activities together.

The Tranby College students are currently involved in Certificate II in Community Services and are completing a unit of competence based upon preparation for learning to work with people who have disabilities. There was also a group of enthusiastic Year 11 students who came along to volunteer their time.

In addition, the Cert II students have made three visits to Willetton throughout Term 2. While they are there, they take part in the activities which are planned at the hall and engage with the Community Options clients.

Angela Gileno, Service Learning Coordinator at Tranby College said "Our visits always end in a debrief/reflection session which helps them to unpack, talk and digest their experiences. This is an integral part of the learning journey for them. My students have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know the clients and were very keen to organise a a morning of activities and morning tea at the College."

"Based upon their experiences at the hall and acquired knowledge, together, we managed to brainstorm a range of activities which we thought would be suitable and enjoyable for the clients."

The activities included sand art, bowls, various tabloid sports, pancake making and morning tea to finish off. The pancake making and sand art were by far the two most popular.

Overall, the day was a huge success and Tranby College are keen to make arrangements with Community Options to be able to do this again, in the not too distant future.
